Terms of Service
Last updated: July 8, 2026
Welcome to The Emberlands ("we," "us," "our") — a community-run Vintage Story game server and its accompanying Discord community and Discord bot (together, the "Service"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Service. Please read them carefully.
01Acceptance of these terms
By joining our Discord server, using the Emberlands Discord bot, or connecting to our Vintage Story server, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
02What we provide
The Emberlands is an unofficial, community-operated hobby project. We provide:
- A multiplayer Vintage Story game server;
- A Discord community for members of that server; and
- The Emberlands Discord bot, which provides whitelisting and account linking, role assignment, support tickets, and moderation tools.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anego Studios (the developers of Vintage Story) or Discord Inc.
03Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required to use Discord in your country, if higher) to use the Service. By using the Service you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you comply with Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
04Whitelisting & accounts
- Access to the game server is whitelisted. To be whitelisted you may need to link your Discord account to your Vintage Story player name or ID through the Emberlands bot.
- You are responsible for keeping your Discord and Vintage Story accounts secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your accounts.
- Do not share, sell, or transfer your whitelist access to anyone else.
- Providing false information to gain access, or attempting to bypass the whitelist, may result in removal.
05Rules of conduct
To keep the Emberlands fair and welcoming, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully, or discriminate against other members;
- Post hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate content in Discord or in-game;
- Cheat, exploit bugs, use unauthorized mods or third-party tools that grant an unfair advantage, or duplicate items;
- Grief, steal, or destroy other players' builds outside of any agreed-upon rules of play;
- Spam, advertise, or send unsolicited direct messages to members;
- Impersonate staff, other members, or the bot;
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, hack, or gain unauthorized access to the server, bot, or infrastructure;
- Break Discord's Terms of Service or any applicable law.
Additional server-specific rules may be posted in our Discord. Those rules are part of these Terms.
06Using the Emberlands bot
- The bot is provided to support the community. Do not abuse, spam, or attempt to exploit its commands.
- Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the bot or its data.
- The bot processes limited Discord data to function. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what it collects and why.
07Enforcement
We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, issue warnings, mute, kick, remove from the whitelist, ban, or otherwise restrict any user who violates these Terms or our community rules, or whose conduct we reasonably believe harms the community. Enforcement decisions are made by our staff and are final. Because the Service is a free hobby project, we are not obligated to provide a refund, appeal, or reinstatement.
08Your content
You retain ownership of the messages, builds, and other content you create. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and process that content solely as needed to operate the Service (for example, storing chat/ticket messages for moderation or displaying your builds in the game world). You are solely responsible for the content you submit.
09Availability & no warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uptime, data preservation, world persistence, or that the Service will be error-free. Servers may go down, worlds may be reset or wiped, saves may be lost, and the Service may be discontinued at any time. We take reasonable steps to back up the world, but we cannot promise your progress will always be recoverable.
10Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Emberlands and its staff and volunteers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, in-game progress, or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service. The Service is free of charge, and our total liability to you will not exceed any amount you have paid us (which, for a free service, is zero).
11Third-party services
The Service runs on and integrates with third-party platforms, including Discord and Vintage Story. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for third-party services.
12Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and may announce significant changes in our Discord. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
